So, I am not a mathematician...  and having decided to price out our meals, and being sick, I have reduced myself to tears trying to work out the price per gram on things like sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil etc....  Dear me... who's idea was this anyhow?  I think because I am still quite unwell, my brain is really struggling to cope...(that's my story and I'm sticking to it!)  but it has been a very enlightening experience... you can visit the MENU page to see how we are doing with some of the recipe prices so far...  It is a time consuming exercise.... I am pretty sure it will be worth the effort in the end... Greg is keeping a diary about how much time, effort and money we are putting into the garden in hopes of saving something there too.  I have added The Garden Project to this website as well so you can also follow that process.  WE have loved your comments so far, both here, and on our various facebook thread and pages!  Keep the encouragement coming...

I love what you and your family are doing here, if everyone can get one tip to help with their budgets you’ll know it’s all worthwhile. We as a family have just got our veg patch up and running, husbands are great for digging and weeding (I highly recommend this) and children age 11 with a little guidance are great at planting small seeds and seedlings. I have become the hole maker and organiser of what gets planted and where so far we have tomatoes, radishes, carrots and beetroot in one bed (tip: all good companions!) and broccoli in the next one (tip: never plant brassicas with tomatoes) not much to see at the moment most are seeds in the ground I will post a photo at some point for you.
Hope you’re feeling better soon x

Welcome Sarah! And Thank you! Your garden sounds great! WE are JUST starting the process of trying to create one that will truly contribute to our household costs. I have made note of your brassica/tomato tip! Thanks!

This is all very exciting! We have almost abandoned our vegie garden as have a whopping great tree above it keeping it in shade most of the day. I still try planting in it but find only lettuces and spinach survive! Instead of a vegie garden I have started container planting and boy of boy this is fun!! - I have 99c buckets planted with various seedlings and they appear to be thriving! We have also taken a tip from a green fingered relative who plants two tomato plants directly into a bag of tomato potting mix - just creates a couple of slits and bungs them in!

I hope this week sees you much improved in health too Leanne :)
